De Vlaamse Interuniversitaire Raad (VLIR) werd opgericht als een instelling van openbaar nut. De VLIR is een autonoom overlegorgaan, gefinancierd door de universiteiten.
VLIR heeft tot doel de dialoog en samenwerking tussen de Vlaamse universiteiten te bevorderen en de gezamenlijke belangen van de universiteiten ten aanzien van het beleid te behartigen.
